Develop the 3 elements of assertive communication

You will identify and overcome whatever is preventing you from being assertive.

You will establish your limits (your “Boundaries” *) so that you can connect with others without feeling overwhelmed.

You will develop your capacity to communicate assertively from day to day: express your needs, get your opinions across constructively, make requests, say no...

Before we do anything else, we start by listening to you. We want to understand what you find challenging and what holds you back so that we can offer the solution that actually meets your needs.

We make sure that each participant gains practical skills that they can use in real-life situations.

The goals of our assertiveness training

Our training will teach you how to:

  • Overcome whatever is preventing you from being assertive. 
  • Earn respect by expressing your needs and your points of view.
  • React positively when dealing with difficult people or situations.

 

What you will learn

Understand your issues when it comes to being assertive

  • Self-assessment: your preferred approach to relationships with others and barriers to assertive communication.

 

Remove the barriers to a non-assertive attitude:

  • Turn your restrictive beliefs into positive beliefs.
  • Identify “your fears” and learn how to overcome them.
  • Understand the influence that your personality profile can have.
  • Be clear with yourself, set targets for your relationships and communication style.
  • Manage your day-to-day “unassertive” reactions.

 

Earn respect:

  • Set limits, avoid getting overwhelmed by adopting the “Boundaries model”.
  • Learn how to express your needs.
  • Ask effective, constructive questions.
  • Defend your opinion respectfully.
  • Say “no” without feeling bad about it and without damaging the relationship.

 

Manage difficult situations:

  • Manage aggressive, manipulative behaviour.
  • React constructively to criticism.
  • Anticipate difficult situations.

 

Train yourself using exercises based on situations you have experienced.

 

Create your action plan.

Develop your self-confidence:

  • Manage your emotions.
  • Build up your self-confidence, taking things one step at a time.
  • Gradually build up a supportive, motivational image of yourself.

 

* This training draws on Anné Linden’s “Boundaries model”.
